Terms and Conditions for the 2019 Brownlow Medal Datathon
This Competition is governed by the following Terms and Conditions.
Participation in the Competition constitutes acceptance of the Terms and Conditions.
Information on how to enter and prizes forms part of the Terms and Conditions.
The promoter of the Competition is Betfair Pty Limited (ACN 110 084 985) of Level 13, 565 Bourke Street, Melbourne, Victoria, 3000.
The Competition opens at 9am AEST on 6 September 2019 and closes at 5.59pm AEST on 23 September 2019.
The Competition is open to persons who meet ALL of the following criteria:
• they reside in Australia or New Zealand; AND
• they are aged 18 years of age or over; AND
• they are not excluded from wagering with Betfair (Eligible Participant).
In order to enter the Competition, an Eligible Participant must register their details by filling out the registration form found at https://www.betfair.com.au/hub/brownlow-medal-datathon/.
Competition Entrants must meet the following submission criteria:
• final submissions are due by 5.59pm AEST on 23 September 2019;
• to submit your outputs, email your final submission to email@example.com;
• submissions must follow the format outlined above and shown in the ‘Betfair Brownlow Datathon Submission.csv’. Any submissions that are not in the correct format will not be accepted;
• please note - the name of your prediction model will be published on the Betfair website, and will be visible to members of the public. Please bare this in mind when naming your model. Offensive names will not be published.
• submissions must be in a csv format; and
• only one (1) prediction model will be accepted per Competition Entrant.
The metric used to determine the winner will be the Mean Squared Error over all predictions, based on the actual Brownlow votes received compared to predicted Brownlow Votes received. For example, the Betfair Data Scientists' Brownlow Model predicted Tom Mitchell to poll votes last season, while he only actually polled 28. Thus, the Squared Error for this individual prediction was . On the other hand, if our model had correctly predicted votes, the Squared Error would have been . The winner of the datathon will be the participant with the lowest Mean Squared Error over predictions for every player to poll.
The winner will be the competitor with the lowest sum of mean squared error over all player predictions. It is important that answers are submitted in the format that is provided in ‘Betfair Brownlow Datathon Submission.csv’.
We will assume 0 predicted votes for any missing values. For example, if someone doesn’t provide a prediction for ‘P Dangerfield’ we will assume they predict 0, and mean squared error will be calculated accordingly.
Winners will be announced via email and on the Betfair website after the Competition concludes on or around 24 September 2019.
The Competition Prizes will be distributed soon after the announcement of the winners.

The following prizes will be awarded to the Entrants that finish in the top 10 positions. The prizes will be in the form of a loaded Visa/Mastercard gift card. Note – cash will not be provided.

2nd - $1,000 gift card
3rd - $750 gift card
4th - $500 gift card
5th - $250 gift card
6th - $100 gift card
7th - $100 gift card
8th - $100 gift card
9th - $100 gift card
10th - $100 gift card
Entrants will be notified by email if they have won a prize.
The results of the Competition (as announced by Betfair) will be final and no further correspondence will be entered into.
Betfair reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of entries and identification details of all Entrants (including identity and age) and disqualify any entry that is not submitted in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.
The Competition is intended for bona fide participants and it is a requirement that all entrants act in good faith at all times.
If for any reason this Competition is not capable of running as planned, Betfair reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Competition. If the Competition is cancelled or terminated by Betfair, no prizes will be awarded.
Betfair collects personal information in order to conduct the Competition, and may, for this purpose, disclose such information to third parties, including but not limited to agents, contractors and, as required, to Australian regulatory authorities.
Betfair accepts no responsibility whatsoever for system or connection problems that might affect any end user during the Competition.
Betfair shall not be liable for any loss or damages howsoever arising as a result of an Entrant's or winner's participation in the Competition or any modification, alteration, discontinuance or termination of the Competition.
By entering the Competition, Entrants:
• will be deemed to have accepted these Terms and Conditions; and
• agree to be added to Betfair’s database and receive communications from Betfair from time to time.
